Training prog on court procedure begins

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: A week-long in-service training programme on “Court Procedure” for the APCS officers in the rank of COs/EACs  commenced at Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Naharlagun today. As many as eighteen officers are attending the programme which is being conducted with the 100 per cent course fee sponsorship of DoPT, Gol under its specific State Category Plan Training Assistance for 2012-13.

Addressing the participants at the inaugural function, Capital DC Sanjay Goel said such in-house training for APCS officers who are holding the dual responsibility of judiciary & executive will go a long way in strengthening their knowledge and skill.  Training gives an opportunity to re-charge and revive to achieve higher performance level, he said. The DC also encouraged the officers to follow the principle of “Simple living & high thinking” and become a role model for others with sincerity and  hard work.

Earlier, the Director (training) explained the aim and objective of the programme while P. Tayeng,  assistant director (Training)  and Course Coordinator highlighted the course content.

A week-long Training Course on "Networking & Internet" also commenced at ATI today. As many as twenty-four) officials of the various line Departments including AP Civil Secretariat, Itanagar/Naharlagun/Nirjuli are attending the training programme.  

Among others, training director Pema Tshetan, Course Coordinator, T Lodo, Dy. Director (training) spoke on the occasion.

 

KVK team inspects farmers’ field

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: A team from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Basar inspected the Pea and Toria crop fields covered under Agriculture Technology Managmenet Agency (ATMA) today.

The team evaluated the problems and constraints of the farmers were discussed in details. The team expressed their satisfaction and encouraged them to work hard and get the technical guidance from the KVK from time to time. The crops were in flowering and pod formation stages. There was no symptom of nutrient deficiency, insect/pest infestation and incidence of any diseases. The team suggested the farmers for testing the soil before sowing any crop to get higher production.

 

Kirto & Dage enter final in badminton tourney

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Kirto Nyorak and Dage Chiram entered into the Boys U-13 and U-15 singles final in the District Level Badminton Tournament of West Siang conducted by General Administration in collaboration with Basar Badminton Club yesterday.

Kirto beat Toni Bam while Dage beat Degam Yomgam in their respective semifinals matches played yesterday. Kirto will meet Mie Nyodu and Dage will play against John Bam in the finals.

In Open category, Karmo Riram paired with Tomar Ango reached final after beating Lee Sora and his partner Kenjum Riram  21-14, 21-17.

Tojo Bam and Jumsen Bam beat the duo of Migo Basar and Toni Bam (Sr) 21-11, 21-9 and advanced to semifinal to be played later tonight.

AAK president relinquishes post

PASIGHAT, Jan 21: The Executive Committee of Adi Bane Kebang in a special sitting here yesterday selected its vice president Nini Pertin as President (Acting) after Professor Tamo Mibang relinquished from the post following his appointment as Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, informed Maktil Apum, AGS AAK.

In the sitting, the committee also adopted various resolutions such as celebration of AAK foundation day at Ngopok Village under Mebo Circle, modification of existing Adi script, revamping of literary activities including registration of its official magazine ‘Ngargo Lupo’ and its regular publication. ALSU seeks better BSNL service

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: The poor and erratic BSNL network service remains a cause of concern as Arunachal Law Students Union (ALSU) today sought better BSNL network services at Capital Complex particularly at Palwan Point and Sango Motor between Naharlagun and Itanagar.

In a letter addressed to the BSNL general manager ALSU stated that BSNL network remains poor at some areas such as Palwan Point and Sango Motor despite many complaints written by people for its improvement.

 

KVK training on jam making

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: A day-long training programme on “Preparation of Kiwi Jam” and “Pest control in Potato without use of Chemicals” were conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lower Subansiri at Hong village on today.

Shashi Kant Chaturvedi, Subject Matter Specialist in Horticulture trained the members of Parii Bogo self help group of Hong Village (Ziro) on preparation of Kiwi Jam by preparing it on the spot.

Mudang Tana, SMS (Plant Protection) also trained the farmers about pest control in potato without chemicals.

Altogether 12 farmers participated in the programme.

 

Organization alleges misuse of fund, demands action

ITANAGAR, Jan 21:  The Kameng Youth Organization (KYO) today demanded immediate action against the then Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer PWD Kalaktang Division alleging them of misuse of fund under special plan assistance amounting Rs 300 lacs which was meant for the construction of culture centre at Chillipum in West Kameng.  In its FIR lodged with Kalaktang police station,  KYO claimed that amount was withdrawn with false work completion reports.  It also claimed that the department had mentioned that allocated works had been completed during month of March 2012, whereas organization went on to claim that culture centre at Chillipum was completed years back with donation contributed by public, NGO and Buddhist believers rather than from SPA fund. It further appealed to the concerned authority to take immediate action against the said officers.

 

APCC welcomes Rahul as party VP

Change nomenclature of district, says AAPYO

ITANAGAR, Jan 21:   All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organization (AAPYO) today objected the proposed new district nomenclature 'Karadadi' and pleaded to change it into 'Lower Kurung Kumey.'  In a representation to the chief minister, organization said that name of proposed new district is not appropriate, instead, it should be called as lower Kurung Kumey district.

 

KVK training on Dairy Management

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: The 3 days training on Scientific Dairy Management for farmers organized by National Research Center on Yak, (ICAR) Dirang in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Lohit began at conference hall of Namsai ADC today.

56 dairy entrepreneurs from Chongkham, Namsai and Lekang circle attended on the first day of the training which was inaugurated by Namsai EAC.

District Veterinary Officer Dr. Mamo Tama detailed the farmers about various Govt schemes for dairy farm and insurance while Dr. Kesab Sharma, SVO, Mahadevpur narrated about the prospects of dairy farming, feasibility of packet milking in Lohit and different breeds cattle and feeding their in a scientific manner.

KVK Program Coordinator Dr. P.K. Mallick delivered a talk on breeding and scientific management of dairy farm.

The farmers showed keen interest on dairy production and also assured to practice scientific dairy farming in future.

Dr. U.A. Nandankar highlighted artificial insemination (AI) and its advantage and disadvantage.

Dr. Jayanta, veterinary officer, Namsai also spoke on the occasion.

PPWF to be landmark tourism event: Sona

NAMPONG, Jan 21: The three-day Pangsau Pass Winter Festival-2013 inked record footfalls of 20,000 in two days, most of whom had the experience of visiting the neighbouring nation without passport or visa.

Though on the inaugural day Sunday, the Indian Army did not permit the tourists to take their vehicle beyond Nampong border post, 12.5 km short of Myanmar, but they granted permission today after lot of persuasion by Agriculture Minister and local legislator Setong Sena, protocol commissioner Bandana Deori, Changlang deputy commissioner Chanchal Yadav and organising committee president Aboo Kimsing, Nampong ADC Nidhi Srivastav said.

Hundreds of vehicles made a beeline to Pangsau Pass right from early morning on the dilapidated road improved by the Arunachal PWD. But the road could not withstand the heavy traffic flow which forced blockade and the DC had to impose a ban on flow of Indian vehicles temporarily to clear the vehicle before the vehicles were allowed again.

In keeping with the tradition of the festival; Sena, Deori, the DC and a group of senior officers went to Pangsau Pass with gifts and goodwill to thank the Myanmar government for all help. Sona and tourism secretary Sonam Chombay steering through the road congested by vehicles on both sides joined them later.

Addressing a huge gathering as guest of honour in the evening, Sona said the footfall and vehicle tyre marks on the road to Myanmar indicated the PPWF would be one of the biggest events in the state.

Referring to the three-day International Tourism Mart that concluded at Guwahati Sunday, Sona said 79 delegates from 23 countries and delegates from nine participating states including national and international media were all gaga over the state tourism which did exceedingly well and received one of the highest queries from the foreign delegates including officials, tour operators and hoteliers. “Arunachal is a big name now for global tourists,” he said to the thunderous applause of the gathering. Festivals instead of VIP-centric should be people’s festival like PPWF, which with the wholehearted support of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and Planning Minister Chowna Mein and the untiring efforts of Sena would make the region one of the most important tourist hubs of the state. Efforts are on to open new tourist circuits covering this area, he said while thanking the Indian Army and Myanmar government for their support for the grand success of the event.   

Commanding officer of 3 Corps Lt Gen Arun Kumar Sahni, in his address as chief guest, described the festival as a landmark event that reflected the rich cultural mosaic and rich traditions of the local denizens, unlike any such events in the country as it is a collage of culture of the neighbouring nation.

“This reflects the dynamism and awareness of the local leaders,” he said and hoped that the festival would grow by strength in years to come.  

Releasing of balloons by the guests and scintillating cultural programme made the evening colourful. The day was packed with various cultural items and traditional games and sports, unique for the visitors, who relished the delicious local cuisines in the local huts at the venue.

While marketing at Pangsau Pass today many told this editor that the trip to this country and having a look of infamous ‘Lake of no Return’ is a unique experience though there are hardly any stuffs worth buying.

Myanmarese were doing brisk business at Pagsau Pass as well as in make shift stalls at the festival ground here. Sena admitted that the festival not only benefits the Myanmarese the most but strengthens the Indo-Myanmar relations.

The chief minister is scheduled to attend the concluding function tomorrow as the chief guest. He will be accompanied with Union MoS for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering, Rajya Sabha member & APCC president Mukut Mithi and Planning Minister Mein.

 

 

PMGSY roads to link Lada, Vijayanagar with rest of Arunachal

NEW DELHI, Jan 21: Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh today approved in principle construction of two roads in Arunachal Pradesh, namely Bameng to Lada (55 kms) and Miao to Vijaynagar (157 kms) under PMGSY of the Ministry of Rural Development.

Lada, a remote circle headquarters in East Kameng district, is yet to be connected by a road. Due to lack of road communication majority of the inhabitants of the area – mostly Sajalongs and Puroiks – have migrated to settle in the foothills of East Kameng and West Kameng. Likewise, Vijaynagar, also a circle headquarters in Changlang district has been facing myriad problems due to incompletion of the Miao-Vijayanagar road. Though the road has reached Vijaynagar from Miao, it remains closed or unfit for vehicular movement most part of the year.

The Chief Minister, who visited Lada on October 16 and Vijoynagar on December 23 last year, had assured the people at both places that he would earnestly take the road connectivity issue with the Center and next time people will see him visiting the area by road.

Jairam Ramesh conveyed the good news to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki who met him here today to discuss various matters related to the Rural Development Sector in the state.

Taking the opportunity, the Chief Minister invited Ramesh to lay the foundation stones of both the important roads. In a positive gesture the Union Minister consented to visit Arunachal from February 18 to 20 next. During the meeting which lasted nearly an hour, the Union Minister reiterated the commitment of his Ministry towards development of the frontier state.

Tuki apprised Ramesh that he will convene an extensive review meeting of the RWD/PMGSY Schemes during the latter’s visit to the state in February.

In the course of the day Tuki also called on Union Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moiley and appealed to him for increasing the allocation of petrol pumps in the state for the benefit of the people from remote areas. Moiley assured the Chief Minister that he will take up the matter with the Oil PSUs under his Ministry including the Indian Oil Corporation at the earliest.

Later in the day, the Chief Minister called on Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Chief of Army Staff General Bikram Singh to discuss various matters related to the state.

 

 

NES winds up district tour

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: The Nyishi Elite Society (NES) led by its president Bengia Tolum wound up its East Kameng, West Kameng and Assam tour on Sunday evening with series of meetings at Pakke Kessang, Seppa town and Bana in East Kameng, Bhalukpong in West Kameng, Phulguri, Charduar and Dhubia in Assam.  

The tour themed, “Nurturing youth energy and harnessing women folk” that started on 16 November last year covered Kurung Kumey, Upper and Lower Subansiri districts.    

At Pakke Kessang, the District Demand Committee (Pakke Kessang) General Secretary Aka Tok Camdhir submitted a one-point memorandum and sought NES’ help for creation of  Pakke Kessang district with its headquarters at Lemmi comprising administrative circles—Pakke-kessang, Dessing Passo, Passa, Pijeriang and Seijosa while citing communication bottleneck, administrative inconvenience, lack of development and  availability of vast land.

The demand dates back to almost two decades starting from Apang govt under the tutelage of former minister Dera Natung; a memorandum of which was also submitted to NES entourage in 2009, he narrated.

Sunil Nabam, chairman of the Committee justifying the demand prayed the NES team to facilitate discussion with the state leadership while citing that the recent creation of four districts has not taken place in Nyishi areas.

In his address, Tolum, reiterated the positive role of youth and women in the community and nation building. He advised the youth to strive for the state and national level competitive examinations or good entrepreneurship. He assured to take-up the one point memorandum for creation of Pakke-kessang district with the state leadership and impressed upon the government for formation of a District Re-Organization Commission to recommend creation of districts on need base. At Seppa, Tapuk Taku, chairman Sports Authority of Arunachal in his welcome address urged the youth to refrain from indulging in criminal activities. Expressing his indignation over the reported cases of extortion in Seppa township by few miscreants, Tapuk appealed all to cooperate the administration in containing such activities.    

Arjun Panye, ANSU general secretary stated that the “pen and paper” rule the world in this IT-age while encouraging the youth to pay more attention to their education.

“In this IT-age, physical might has no relevance; knowledge is power and wealth in the present day context. We must also discourage clanism, areasim and unionism and able to identify which is right or wrong,” Arjun advocated.

Neelam Moriam Khoda, President Nyishi Nyem Acham and Higio Aruni, secretary, Women and Family Affairs (NES) in their address urged the womenfolk to be self-reliant in addition to their role of a caring, loving wife or mother.

Kumar Waii speaking on behalf of all the four MLAs of the district assured to take the law breakers to stringent task and appealed the apex body to rise to combat the menace. “The parents and guardians must play proactive role to thwart the growing crimes. Due to commission of offences by few individuals, the district or the region is being defamed and hence, the criminals need to be dealt with iron hand,” he announced.

Tolum underscored the role of youth and women in building a vibrant community. “Extortion, theft, adultery are not our culture. We are identified as hard working, straight forward and hospitable people. The footsteps of social services of late Nyari Welly, Dera Natung, Nicham Sonam and Tarh Achung who are no more with us and Kameng Dolo and PG Dodum amongst us needs to be followed by our present generation,” he appealed the youth.

Tani Loffa, Karya Bagang, officers, Goan Burahs, Panchayat leaders, women, youth and students participated in the programme.

At Bana, Tani Loffa, outlined the NES entourage commemorating 25 years of community service to the gathering.

Asung Yame, Vice President, EKSCWO highlighted the Nyishi-Aka-Miji relationship as a single community–celebrating Nyokum and Sarok together in Bana and Richukrong areas.  Miti Brey, ASM, requested NES to explore the reasons as to why Bana and Richukrong administrative circles are not reflected in the political map of India.

“Bangni and Bangru, erstwhile, commonly known as Dafla before the constitutional amendment was never a separate tribe. Our dialect is same except the camouflaged wordings.

At Phulguri, the largest Nyishi village in Assam, Chuku Humeshri led the presentation to the visiting team while Juniram Wahge speaking on behalf of the villagers requested the team to take up with the Assam Government to include Nyishi as the Hills Tribe of Assam as notified to Garos, Bodos and Nagas. This has caused immense hardship in reservation in jobs and political and local self Government representation, he informed.

The NES President expressed his pleasure over the intact preservation of Nyishi identity and Nyishi dialect despite being in Assam for decades together and advised them to have strong bond and cordial relationship with fellow ethnic population of Assam. Unity, development and building public as well as private infrastructure should be the spirit of the people, he advised. On the Hills Tribe notification issue, he asked the Secretary i/c, Assam Unit, NES to take up the matter with the tribal organization of Assam.

DC suggests tight mechanism to prevent revenue leakage

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Tirap Deputy Commissioner Dr Sachin Shinde said that revenue collection mechanism must be properly streamlined to enhance revenue collection and also to prevent leakage of revenue.

Attending a review meeting on revenue collection, mini secretariat, CC roads and other development matters at his conference hall here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that proper and foolproof vigil should be maintained by Tax and Excise department at the entry check gates. Shinde said that the concerned officers should frequently inspect the revenue-earning ventures and an honest effort should be made by all to enhance the revenue earning in the interest of the revenue- crunch state.

While speaking on other aspects of development activities in the district, the DC said without mincing his words that no lackadaisical attitude of the officers would be tolerated while carrying out government schemes.

All the officers representing revenue-earning departments apprised the participants on revenue collected by them. The Tax and Excise Superintendent threw light on procedures and ways of collecting revenue and urged the departments to follow the guidelines of the government.

A threadbare discussion was also held on mini secretariat, CC roads and Chief Minister’s Agriculture Mechanism Programme. Discussion was also held on how to increase production of textiles and handicrafts in which ADTH MS C. Rajkumari actively participated.

Speaking about Tirap District Career Counseling Cell, the DC said that there would a coaching camp from April and added that in March opium de-addiction camp would be conducted. Apart from these, discussion was held on other aspects of development activities. DIPRO

 

 

PHED hands over seven water supply schemes to PRIs

PASIGHAT, Jan 21: The Public Health Engineering and Water Supply (PHE & WS) department of Pasighat today handed over the responsibility of maintenance of its seven completed water supply schemes to the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). Seven schemes under Rural Water Supply projects allotted in the financial year 2011-12 were implemented by Pasighat division of PHED.

Coincided with handing over of water supply schemes to the local bodies, the PHED organized a workshop on “Sustainable Sanitation and Management of Drinking Water Quality Monitoring” today at its Sub-division office premise in presence of the department officials and PRI members.

Inaugurating the workshop, executive engineer (PHED), O Padung urged the PRI members to hold the responsibility of management of the drinking water schemes in their respective villages. Nyong Paloh, Assistant Engineer of PHED briefed on sanitation and health linkage and management of drinking water supply etc.

Addressing the PRI members, the district consultant (monitoring and evaluation) Bitem Dupak discussed about role of the PRI members, while laboratory technician Ojing Megu made demonstration on water quality testing with FTI.

The recently completed rural water supply were placed at Napit, Pekung, Monku, Kelek Roing, Rengging, Bilt and Kemi (check post) villages under East Siang district.

In the occasion, the PHED also distributed 10 FTI kits to PRI members participated from the project areas.

 

 

Pema inaugurates Stupa for peace

LUMLA, Jan 21:  Namgey Chorten, a Buddhist Stupa  erected at Mangnam Village, Lumla was inaugurated by RWD and Tourism Minister Pema Khandu in presence of Parliamentary Secretary Civil Aviation Jambey Tashi, Parliamentary Secretary Science & Technology Phurpa Tsering and Tawang Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Dev.

The Stupa filled with sacred relics and Buddha’s statues was consecrated according to sacred text by Rev. Guru Tulku Rinpoche, the abbot of Tawang Monastery.

There are three representations of the Buddha - Body, Speech, and Mind. Actual statues within the Stupa are representations of Buddha's holy body. The scriptures represent Buddha's holy speech. And the Stupas itself represent Buddha's holy mind, informed Guru Rinpoche to the huge gathering. Amongst all the eight type of stupa, Namgey Chorten is considered the most auspicious. It is built to emit energy of peace, prosperity and long life not just to the local inhabitants but to entire sentient being of Universe. The Minister showed his knowledge of spirituality when he said, ‘Stupas are powerful holy object that even an unintentional circumambulation purifies negativities and accumulates virtue. Thus animals and insects that inadvertently circumambulate a stupa create powerful causes for auspicious rebirths and eventual enlightenment’.

Appreciating the local MLA, Pema said that he is not surprised to see the development pace of Lumla under the able leadership of Jambey Tashi.

Appealing to the crowd, the local MLA said, ‘Tawang is synonym to Peace. And I believe that the people of Tawang will continue to be the messier of peace to the rest of Arunachal’. He further requested not be lured and misguided by ambiguous people with vested interest.

SP Tawang S N Mosobi, HODs, and Public Leaders were also present on the auspicious occasion.

 

 

Army recruitment rally for Arunachalee candidates

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Army Recruiting Office, Jorhat will conduct recruitment rally for candidates from all districts of Arunachal Pradesh for enrolment of male candidates in Soldier (General Duty) at Sarbananda Singha Sports Stadium, Tinsukia, Assam from February 12 to 20.

NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders, sons of servicemen, sons of Ex-servicemen, sons of War Widows, re-enrolment of DSC, Sportsmen, who have represented at State or National level will be screened on February 18.

Candidates of Technical/Nursing Assistant/Clerk categories soldiers (from all states of North East) will be screened on February 19. Written Test for candidates, who will be found fit in physical tests, documents check and medical examination will be held on February 24.

Educational qualification for Soldier (GD) category is Class VIII for Scheduled Tribes and Class X for general category.

The candidates should be at least 160 cm in height for Soldier (GD) and it should be 157 CM for Soldier Tech & Nursing Assistant. Candidates should produce original educational documents, birth certificate, Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC)/Nativity Certificate, Scheduled Tribe Certificate, character certificate and unmarried certificate.

Ete condemns Aalo incident

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: While condemning the Aalo incident on 10th January in which a student leader Goto Yudik lost his life, Gadam Ete, Parliamentary Secretary, Home, stated that the incident happened ‘due to two factions of Galo Students' Organizations.’

“This could have been avoided if Galo Welfare Society (GWS) took proper precautionary measures. The district administration and home department can not be blamed for the fault of the Galo Welfare Society,” Ete said in a release. He further said that the district administration is doing its duties to solve the problems ‘as it is evidence from the fact that murderer has been arrested and other culprits involved in the incident are under warrant.’ While referring to the  peace committee  that has reportedly been formed to solve the issue, Ete said  so far no formal report has been made  to the district administration in this regard. “I appeal to all the Galo community that the issue should not be mixed with politics and effort has to be put to solve the issue at the community level to give justice to the bereaved family,” Ete said. It is high time to sit together and concentrate on the issue to avoid further repercussion, he added.

While condemning the proposed bandh call on Jan 22, the release said that the  bandh call is not in any way going to solve the issue. Such bandh call may affect the  preparation for R Day celebration, the release said adding “if anybody disturb the district administration by calling such bandh, stem action will be taken against the bandh caller as per the law.”

Meanwhile, Galo Students’ Union (GSU) in a release today said that it has exempted vehicular movement from the purview of its proposed 24-hour bandh in Galo dominated areas tomorrow.

 

 

Training on disability rehabilitation

BOMDILA, Jan 21: The five days orientation and training on Disability Rehabilitation organized by National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (NIMH), Department of Disability Affairs, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, GOI in collaboration with the West Kameng District Administration commenced at Indoor Multi Sports Complex here today.

Inaugurating the program, Deputy Commissioner Rinchin Tashi called upon the target groups – the doctors, child development project officers, anganwadi workers, teachers and the PRI members to take up the cause with a missionary zeal. ‘Mere participation and attendance would not serve the purpose. Active interaction and disseminating the same at the grassroots level is of utmost importance,’ he said. He also opined that the civil societies in the district could play a major role in this matter. Though accessibility in some parts of the district is a major bottleneck, the commitment of the target groups would be the motivating and guiding force, he added.

Dr. Om Sai Ramesh, V.T Mugesh and Dr. Mousomi Bowmik of the NIMH are imparting the training programme as part of the extension and outreach programmes exclusively for specific target groups from the North eastern states.

The focal points for the 5-day-long training would be on prevention, early identification and early intervention of disabilities, special educational inputs, inclusion and integration of children with disabilities, assessment and behavioral management of children with mental retardation and legislations in the field of disability, rehabilitation and various schemes and benefits for persons with disabilities.

AGSU condemns Aalo incident, appeals for peace

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: All Galo Students' Union (AGSU) has strongly condemned the Aalo incident occurred on Jan 10  during Galo day celebration in which a youth delegate Goto Yudik lost his life. Terming the incident ‘unfortunate and shameful’, the AGSU deeply mourned the death of Yudik.

Saying that many innocent publics are being misinterpreted and false and fabricated reports without knowing the actual facts were issued regarding the  incident,  AGSU in a release today appealed all conscious citizens to refrain from petty politics and blame game. The AGSU urged all section of societies to work for the peace and defuse the situation rather than making provoking press releases.

Claiming that prime accused/culprit of the incident has surrendered himself before the authorities concern  and  the authorities have been investigating the case, the  AGSU requested some individuals  not to escalate the issue for their political gains, rather come forward to solve the burning issues with good sagacity. AGSU further hopes that the peace committee will bring back normalcy within the Galo community and unearth the truth behind the incident.

Stressing on the need to fight together for justice to late Yudik and his family, the AGSU, however, opposed the proposed agitation from Jan 23. “AGSU will not encourage the bandh culture as it hampers a lot in developmental activities and only results in the appalling affect on the economy of our own people of the state in general and community in particular. Calling bandh and violence will not serve any  purpose unless we work with positivity and tactful way,” the union said. ‘Therefore we request all the Galo based organizations especially the youths that we are the future of our community and we should not take any decision under the emotional outburst and political influence of some vested persons,’ the union added.

 

 

TN Memorial Football tourney organized successfully

ITANAGAR,   Jan 21: The Pakke-Kessang Sports Club in collaboration with the family members and well-wishers of Late Tagum  Nabam  has  successfully organized the 3rd Tagum Nabam Memorial Football tournament at Pakke-Kessang from Jan 13 to 16 last. Late Tagum Nabam had served the society as ASM for three consecutive terms and also always encouraged the youth to take keen interest in the field of culture, and games and sports activities.

Altogether seven teams participated in the tournament.  The Seramso/IAY defeated the Govt Secondary School in the final match   to won the tournament

Son Tana of Seramso/IAY, Rudra Chetry and Takia Nabam were adjudged as highest scorer, player of the tournament and best goal keeper respectively.

Earlier, addressing the inaugural function, vice chairman of Sports Authority of Arunachal Pradesh cum AKA president Likha Tara assured to extend all possible  and necessary supports for promotion of games and sports activities in the rural areas.  Highlighting the initiatives being taken by the state Govt for promotion of sports activities in the state,  Likha has also assured to provide Rs one lakh from SAA for development of play ground and other sports infrastructure,  informed Sports Club in a release. The  inaugural function was attended among others by  Pakke-Kessang ZPM cum APCC general secretary B C Tok.

Er Tayum Tok, EE PHED cum president, 12th Pakke Kessang Intellectual Forum attended the closing ceremony on Jan 16. He was optimistic that sports personnel of the area will enhance their skill and participate in the state and national level sports competition to bring name and fame for Arunachal.

 

 

Tadung wins national (Sub-Jr.) Wushu gold

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Tadung Dada of Arunachal Pradesh won a gold medal in the 12th Sub-Junior National Wushu Championship 2012 held at Raj Nanda Gaon Chattisgarh from December 24 to 30.

Tadung, son of Pangmo Dada and Binita Dada is a IXth standard student of Arunodaya Govt. Hr. Sec. School Itanagar. He defeated five strong opponents before claiming the gold, informed All Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Association in a release.

While lauding the performance of the upcoming player, AAPWA President Toko Teki wished him a very bright future.

The five-member Arunachal team was led by Coach Bimol Singh.

It is worth mentioning here that AAPWA chief coach M. Prem Kumar Singh was invited by Wushu Association of India as Head Judge of the championship.

Meanwhile, AAPWA has selected nine players for the ensuing North East Games to be held in Imphal, Manipur. The two days selection trial was conducted under the supervision of O. Singh, Chief Coach of Sikkim Wushu Associaion and AAPWA president Teki. The players will take part in Sanshou (fight).

Torture remains a serious concern

Torture remains a serious concern in numerous detention facilities across Afghanistan, despite significant efforts by the Government and international partners to address the problem, according to a new United Nations report released on Sunday.

The report by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) states that more than half of 635 conflict-related detainees interviewed experienced ill-treatment and torture, particularly in 34 facilities of the Afghan National Police (ANP) and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) between October 2011 and October 2012.

Torture took the form of abusive interrogation techniques in which Afghan officials inflicted severe pain and suffering on detainees during interrogations aimed mainly at obtaining a confession or information, UNAMA stated. Fourteen methods of torture and ill-treatment were described similar to practices previously documented by the Mission.

Among other measures to improve detention practices, the Government carried out training programmes on prevention of the ill-treatment of detainees, issued policy directives, increased the number of inspections and reassigned personnel.

UNAMA stated that its findings reinforce the urgent and long-term need for reforms in the judiciary, prosecution and law enforcement sectors and offers 64 recommendations to the Government and international partners.

In addition to other measures, UNAMA recommends the creation of an independent national preventive mechanism on torture described in the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture.

 

 

Unjustified criticism

Dear Editor,

This is in response to the letter which appeared in the reader forum column of your daily today written by one Martin. We the central executive body of AASSATA strongly condemn the person who wrote against the present ongoing indefinite pen down strike launched by ATA and AASSATA, jointly pressing for our demand for one go regularization of remaining un-regularized teachers of 2003 batch. This strike has been necessitated  owing to govt’s deaf ear to our charter of demand for almost a year from the day of ultimatum served to the appropriate authority after persistent representation at the highest level on several times.

As an intellectual organization of the state, we know our moral obligation and responsibilities to discharge duty for the welfare of our students and society at large. We don’t need to be guided, supervised, monitored, suggested and evaluated by a person who criticized our genuine demand. We always welcome and invite positive and constructive criticism from all the sections of the societies because constructive criticism, encouragement, support, cooperation, mutual understanding and recognizing of each other’s problem in society and searching for mitigation of problem to find solutions for peace, progress and prosperity is our teachers lifelong mission throughout the life as a nation builder while discharging man making profession in society. We appreciate some of the organizations, well wishers, like minded intellectuals, Panchayat leaders, Political parties Leader, community Organization and students Organization for extending their whole hearted support to our cause through moral and media by understanding our core problem for immediate redressal of charter of demand from the govt. We sincerely appeal all the critics of our society and its activity not to be swayed away by their negative understanding and propaganda who want to meet their selfish motive and benefit by criticizing destructive ways in hope of getting reward from the people who are in position and authority. This kind of destructive and unwanted criticism is unethical, unacceptable, immoral, shameful and condemnable in totality because this unwise easy earning by damaging the popularity of any society is beginning of bad trend in civilized society. So, all section of society should condemn such menace of anti social, evil and demons minded people. Finally, we appeal cross section of society to come forward in extending their support and cooperation to our ongoing indefinite strike till our demand for complete one go regularization of remaining unregularized 2003 batch teachers are fulfilled by the state govt.

SSA teachers deserves better treatment

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily I would like to respond to the previous release in Readers forum regarding SSA Teachers. All the SSA teachers presently serving are well qualified for their post. Yes, there may be many who are now qualified in CTET (Central Teachers Eligibility Test) or STET (State Teachers Eligibility Test) but it was not the required criteria for recruitment or eligibility required for teachers 10 or 5 years ago or not even at the present. Let’s not forget that many of SSA teachers are serving with sincerity almost for decade. So let the present methods of recruitment for teachers be implemented on present appointments. Let’s not deny the service rendered by SSA teachers. Let them have their award not deprivation. There was a time when SSA teachers served duty with empty stomach, empty pocket so on. Even during last Deepwali, Christmas & New Year celebration most of the teachers had to hide their face. Since they had no penny in their A/Cs to buy gifts for their children and enjoy with family and friends as their salaries were not released for months, but none from the organization or well wisher from society had a voice for that.

If the SSA teachers are claiming for regularization of their service what crime are they committing? The students know their teachers. They should come forward in first place to support in union. I urge every sections of society including unions & organization to see deep in the demands of SSA teachers and loudly support in one voice to “Fullfil our demand”.
